How this tool handles your picture
Selecting, previewing or replacing a picture happens in your browser. When you click to generate, the browser sends the prepared image, selected task, any question and optional alt text context to our server. Our server sends those inputs to OpenRouter and its model provider to produce a description, answer, transcription, visual prompt or alt text.
The application does not save pictures, Base64 image data, questions, page context or output text in its database, business logs or analytics events. The current picture and result remain in page memory; there is no server-side description history or recovery feature. Closing or reloading the page can remove them.
Anonymous usage and cookies
A necessary, signed browser cookie helps enforce limits across tabs. It is HttpOnly, Secure and SameSite=Lax, and expires after 30 days. We do not use canvas or font fingerprinting. Clearing cookies creates a new browser identifier but does not remove shared IP limits.
The server converts the Cloudflare-provided IP address into a keyed identifier for usage limits. Business records do not contain the plain IP address. Request records contain anonymous identifiers, an operation fingerprint, mode, time, status and available token usage or cost. These details are eligible for deletion after seven days through scheduled cleanup. Daily aggregate usage counts are retained for service monitoring.
Optional picture processing statistics
When collection is enabled, the browser may send small technical records about picture preparation, including original and prepared sizes, dimensions, format, processing time, size rejections and request transfer timing. We store these separately from generation records for up to seven days before they become eligible for scheduled, batched deletion. Collection can fail or be disabled without preventing generation.
The browser may also calculate a SHA-256 digest of the original file in the background. When a separate statistics key is configured, the server transforms it into a keyed file fingerprint before storage. This lets us count repeated selections of identical file bytes; it is not a visual similarity check or a guarantee of anonymity. We do not retain the unkeyed digest. These records contain no picture content, file names, image URLs, Base64 data or description text. Browser-reported measurements are not proof of what the server received.
Tool usage statistics
Tool usage statistics are enabled by default to help improve this tool. An existing browser preference to disable this collection is respected. When collection is enabled, we record visits to the homepage and AI Image Describer tool page, broad referral categories, selections, preparation outcomes, generation actions and copy outcomes. We use the existing signed browser identifier to connect these records within short sessions. This identifier describes a browser, not a verified individual.
Cloudflare may provide an approximate country, region, city and time zone for the collection request. We also infer broad device, operating system, browser and recognizable in-app browser categories. These values may be missing or inaccurate, especially with VPNs. We do not save raw IP addresses, full user-agent strings, full referral URLs, search terms, image contents, questions, page context or output text in these records. Where picture processing statistics are available, we can associate the existing keyed file fingerprint with a selection; usage collection does not compute a new fingerprint.
Usage details expire seven days after first receipt. Limited daily summaries without browser, session, request or file identifiers expire after 180 days. Expired records are excluded from normal reporting and removed by scheduled batches. Collection is best effort and may lose records; using the tool never requires a statistics request to succeed.
The dap_behavior cookie stores the collection setting for 180 days and defaults to enabled on a new tool visit. Existing disabled settings remain in effect while the cookie is present. A local storage preference helps synchronize settings across open tabs; session storage may hold the previous tool visit identifier and a tab identifier for navigation within that tab. No event queue is stored in browser storage. These settings are separate from the necessary usage-limit cookie, bot verification and picture processing statistics described above.
Third-party processing
Cloudflare hosts the application and database and provides Turnstile bot verification. OpenRouter routes generation requests to the configured model provider. These services process the data needed to perform their roles and apply their own policies; application-level non-storage is not a promise that third parties do not process or retain data.
Read Cloudflare’s Privacy Policy and OpenRouter’s Privacy Policy. Avoid submitting images, questions or context that you are not permitted to share with these services.
Your choices
You can use the prepared examples without generating. Copying a result does not submit the picture again. You may clear the picture, close the page, or remove the site cookie in your browser settings. Blocking the necessary cookie or bot verification may prevent generation.
